The Good Shepherd - Robert De Niro's epic about the CIA, with Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, and many others. Also available on HD-DVD.

Volver - Penelope Cruz was Oscar-nominated for her performance in this Pedro Almodovar effort. Also available on Blu-Ray.

COMEDY

29th & Gay - "Following a year in the life of James Sanchez, it's a story about a guy rapidly approaching thirty, who doesn't have a six-pack, full head of hair or a boyfriend. While his best friend Roxy, an actress-turned-activist, struggles with showing him there's life beyond the glitz of the disco ball, his other friend, Brandon, one of those gay boys comfortable in his own gay skin, works on getting James to at least talk to a boy. Feeling out of place in the world of circuit boys, caught between his Hispanic-American heritage and being gay, we watch James find his place in the world, realizing that life is in the journey, not the destination."

The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour - "In a time when East and West do not seem to understand each other, top stand-up comics of Middle Eastern descent Ahmed Ahmed, Aron Kader, and Maz Jobrani take it upon themselves to single-handedly bridge the gap with an original comedy tour."

The Big Slice - "Art imitates life in the craziest way in this action comedy when two failed newspaper writers decide to try method writing in order to create a best selling novel. Mike infiltrates the criminals, and Andy infiltrates the cops. Things heat up when a thief is killed in the back of Mike's cab and he is introduced to the local crime boss. Meanwhile, Andy becomes a local hero and goes on patrol with the cops. But as the two become more and more involved with their respective 'sides' of the law, their loyalties shift and they need to get out and back to reality - before it's too late." With Casey Siemaszko, Leslie Hope, and Heather Locklear.

Bong Water - "When slinky, sassy Serena waltzes into David's life, things take a turn for the better …until his house burns down and she bolts to New York with a wannabe rock star. Now, David's gotta put his life back together while Serena frolics back east. If she ever returns, someone's gonna get a rude awakening, as this raucous comedy hurtles toward an outrageous and unexpected finish." With Andy Dick, Alicia Witt, Jack Black, Brittany Murphy, Jamie Kennedy, and Luke Wilson.

Crush On U - "Appropriate for the whole family, Crush on U revolves around Rome, a teenage boy with everything going for him. When Rome's friend assigns the smart teen to the task of babysitting his little sister, no one could imagine the trouble that Rome will encounter when he finds out the young girl is harboring an enormous crush."

Happy Tree Friends: Season #1: Volume 2 - More of the adorable critters who generally meet outrageously gory fates.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time - 1975 flick featuring John Candy.

Jump In! - "This Disney Channel movie follows a teen as he discovers that he wants to trade in his boxing gloves for a jump rope." This is the "Freestyle Edition," if that matters.

Mo'nique: I Coulda Been Your Cellmate! - "Comic sensation and internationally known movie star, Mo’Nique brings her unique brand of humor to the most unlikely of places – a women's correctional facility in Ohio."

CULT FLICKS

The Acid Eaters / Weed - A drug-related double feature from Something Weird.

Attack Of The Gryphon - "A true sword and sorcery epic, Attack of the Gryphon chronicles the story of two kingdoms brought together in their quest to defeat the Gryphon and the evil Sorcerer who controls him."

Bedazzled - The original 1967 Peter Cook/Dudley Moore comedy classic.

Black Emmanuelle's Box, Volume 1 - Nice title. It's a box set of three Emmanuelle films starring Laura Gemler, plus a CD of soundtrack music.

The Caper - "When a tough bank robber is let out of jail, he quickly teams up with his father with the intention of robbing a bank once again, this time setting their sights on the Bank of Hollywood. The father-son pair let things get out of hand by hiring an Elvis impersonator and a beautiful woman to help out their operation." What makes this a cult flick? Antonio Fargas and Ron Jeremy are in it.

Charlie Chan And The Curse Of The Dragon Queen - Flop attempt to revive the '30s franchise, with Peter Ustinov, Roddy McDowall, and Michelle Pfeiffer in an early role.

Dogs O' War Collection - "This boxed set of films features all the action and bravery of the second world war. From the assassination plot against Winston Churchill in Desert Commando to the Battle of the Ardennes in The Dirty Heroes, these films span the European battlefields. Also includes Eagles Over London, Bridge to Hell, The War Boy, The Mediterranean in Flames, Operation: Cross Eagles, War Devils, Hellcommandoes, and Heroes Without Glory."

Gestapo's Last Orgy - Hunsploitation.

Godzilla Raids Again - "A death struggle between the indestructible monster and the Japanese people with both Godzilla and Gigantis destroying everything in the way." Awesome. Mothra vs. Godzilla also comes out this week.

Royal Flash - Malcolm McDowell stars in the first (and only) adaptation of George Macdonald Fraser's anti-heroic series.

The Shadow Whip - "The classic Shaw Brothers library reveals another gorgeously choreographed revenge thriller featuring not only traditional swordfighting but captivating whip sequences." From 1971.

Earth Aid: Recycling - "Emmy Award-winning film and TV star Ed Begley Jr. leads this discussion of recycling, exploring ways in which we can help preserve the Earth's natural balance." Begley also hosts Earth Aid: Water Conservation, also out this week.

The Living Weapon - "Soon after the United States entered World War II, President Roosevelt received information that Germany and Japan were developing biological weapons. In response, the U.S. and its allies rushed to develop their own germ warfare program, enlisting some of America's most promising scientists in the effort. This program examines the race to develop biological weapons in the 40s and 50s, and the challenges and moral dilemmas the scientists faced."

Who Shall Live and Who Shall Die? - "A documentary about America's knowledge of the Holocaust during the war. Contains previously classified information, interviews and rare newsreel footage. The flip-side of Schindler's List." From 1982.

Zen Buddhism: In Search Of Self - "Following a tradition dating back over 1000 years, two dozen Buddhist nuns gather for a ninety-day period of meditation, fasting and contemplation deep in the mountains of South Korea. In this first-ever documentary on the practice of Dong Ahn Geo (Winter Zen Retreat), you ll be invited into the Baek Hung Buddhist Temple to witness not only the nuns strict meditation practice, but their daily lives in which we see not only a deep spiritual discipline but an almost childlike joy and simplicity."

to find at Blockbuster this week)

Children of Men - Alfonso Cuaron's grim, violent vision of the future terrorizes your DVD player. Also available on HD-DVD.

ACTION-ADVENTURE

Buddha's Palm - "From the action director of Hero and House of Flying Daggers." By that they mean Ching Siu Tung, not Zhang Yimou. From 2004, and not to be confused with the 1982 Shaw Brothers kung fu flick of the same name.

A Bullet for the General - 1967 spaghetti western with Gian Maria Volonte and Klaus Kinski. See also Texas, Adios, also out this week from Blue Underground.

Confessions Of A Thug - "A former mob boss schools a college-educated protégé to be his successor in this hip-hop musical."

Lock Up - Stallone prison flick.

Pigs - "With the fall of the iron curtain, organized crime has taken hold of Poland. This hard-edged action film finds Franz and Olo, two ex-KGB agents turned cops, assigned with cleaning it up. But, while battling the mob and police superiors suspicious of their Communist pasts, these partners must also forge new identities in a country transformed by political upheaval."

Combat Comedy Tour - "Takes us on a road-trip with the USO visiting the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, with stopovers in Kuwait and Dubai for relaxation. Featuring standup-comedy routines by Richard Villa (MTV, MunDos) as well as interviews with the troops on and off duty, including personal greetings to their families back home. A classic look at when soldiers at war take time off to laugh."

Pervert! - "With a nod to the sexploitation classics of the past, PERVERT! combines horror and comedy with eye-popping results." Porn star turned politician Mary Carey is in it.

The Pickle - Re-issue of Paul Mazursky's Hollywood satire. Mazursky's 1982 Tempest also comes out this week.

Sex Sells - "Director Chuck Steak is making his last film and wants to go out with a bang by concocting the biggest and most absurdly complicated adult film ever made. Along the way everything that can possibly go wrong does; tempers flare, secrets are revealed and a hidden past is exposed. Sex Sells is wild, hilarious and heartwarming; a Boogie Nights meets Spinal Tap mockumentary with a big bottom line."

CRITERION

Early Bergman - Five-disc set containing Torment, Crisis, Port of Call, Thirst, and To Joy.

Fires On The Plain - "An agonizing portrait of desperate Japanese soldiers stranded in a strange land during World War II, Kon Ichikawa’s Fires on the Plain is a compelling descent into psychological and physical oblivion."

CULT

10 Violent Women - "What happens when ten sexy, frustrated working women decide to throw away their 9 to 5 lifestyle and become jewelry robbers? Ted V. Mikels' 10 Violent Women dares to imagine the answer to this question, employing a cast of beautiful actresses to play the ten lovely women gone on a crime spree. Although the ladies originally meet with success, their most daring theft lands two of them in prison, where they must deal with the sexual demands of a predatory female warden." Mikels' The Doll Squad is also out this week.

Blonde Comet - "A female race car driver races to save her dad's tire company." From 1941, starring Virginia Vale.

The Goddess of 1967 - A Japanese man goes looking for the car that was in Le Samourai. Instead he finds Rose Byrne (whose post-Casino Royale fame is probably why this 2000 film is hitting DVD now).

Hundra - "It's the Dark Ages, and savage men enslave all women, except for Hundra the Invincible. She leads a valiant tribe of women who dare to be free." A 1983 non-classic directed by Matt Cimber (Butterfly, The Lonely Lady). It warrants a 2-disc edition for some reason.

Miike Madness, Vol. 2 - Contains two more films from Japan's most notorious and prolific director, Takashi Miike: The Bird People in China and Osaka Tough Guys.

DOCUMENTARY

Bottom of the Ninth - "Directed by Oscar nominee Chuck Braverman (Curtain Call, American Time Capsule), Bottom of the Ninth is a real-life Bull Durham story. This documentary chronicles a season with the Somerset Patriots, a minor league baseball team in a race for the championship."

Children of War: The Evacuees - "Relates the stories, sometimes heart-warming and sometimes tragic, of the city children that a well-intentioned but possibly misguided government sent to seek shelter in the countryside. Compiled from archive photographs and film, the subject is explored by experts in this field and the memories of the children themselves. Now grown old, their scars have still not healed."

Clarkson: Heaven And Hell - "Jeremy Clarkson is an irascible British television personality whose automotive expertise has lit up shows such as Top Gear. In Heaven and Hell Clarkson offers an indispensable guide to both the best and worst cars on the market, and gives them all a rigorous test-drive to show how good or bad they really are."

Docurama Film Festival III - A box set of ten documentaries. One has been released before (Naked States). The other nine are new to DVD, and are also available separately this week: Dark Circle; Following Sean; Gitmo: The New Rules Of War; Leona's Sister Gerri; Music From The Inside Out; Of Civil Wrongs & Rights; Stagedoor; Well Founded Fear; and Yellow Brick Road.

Extreme Private Eros Love Song 1974 - "This provocative documentary by Japanese filmmaker Kazuo Hara takes an intimate look at his former lover, Takeda Miyuki. Using the camera as a basis for continued interaction, Hara probes the dissolution of their relationship, and Miyuki's place as a feminist and bisexual within the traditional confines of 1970s Japan."

The Films of Luc Moullet: Anatomy of a Relationship & Genesis of a Meal - "Luc Moullet, original member of the French New Wave and long-time critic for Cahiers du Cinema, directed these distinctive documentaries that resonate with his absurdist view and maverick vision." If you like these, there are two other Moullet discs.

Hacking Democracy - "Filmed for HBO, this documentary takes a detailed look at the voting process, with a particular focus on how votes are counted. An inspirational grandmother, Bev Harris, leads a pack of activists as they uncover some startling facts and take on Diebold — the company responsible for manufacturing electronic voting machines."

Uncover the real history of Hip Hop, with exclusive interviews from the original gangsters, the pioneers of Hip Hop from the South Bronx." Motherland Afghanistan - "Filmmaker Sedika Mojadidi and her father, Dr. Qudrat Mojadidi, are Afghans who have made a home in the United States. After the US-led invasion to oust the Taliban, Dr. Mojadidi, a specialist in women's health, decides to return to his war-ravaged homeland to help rebuild and modernize the hospitals and clinics which serve the women of Afghanistan. Sedika, camera in hand, accompanies her father in order to document this most difficult yet rewarding journey."

N Is a Number - "A wandering documentary capturing the essence of mathematician Paul Erdos, this film follows him through four countries as he continues his metaphysical battle with God to discover the secrets of the universe."

Origins of the Mafia - "This insightful program traces the humble beginnings of the Mafia. Its roots are discovered in 16th-century Sicily, and then followed as they flourish into an organized crime outfit."

Panama Deception - "This documentary details the case that the 1989 invasion of Panama by the US was motivated not by the need to protect American soldiers, restore democracy or even capture Noriega. It was to force Panama to submit to the will of the United States after Noriega had exhausted his usefulness."

Relentless Enemies - "Lions and buffalos are deadly rivals in the wild, and this film shows how brutal their confrontations can get. Produced for the National Geographic channel, award-winning filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert (Eye of the Leopard) capture some remarkable footage on film." Also available on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

Tokyo Underground - "Gives a glimpse into Japan's street racing subculture."

DRAMA

20 Fingers - "First-time director Mania Akbari explores the heartbreak and joy of romantic relationships through the stories of seven couples searching for happiness. Composed of seven vignettes, the film features the same two actors in each episode, playing different characters." From Iran. Another Iranian film out this week: Men at Work.

The Bow - Korean drama. "A sixty-year-old man has been raising a young girl since she was six years old and plans to marry her next month when she turns seventeen. Living their lives together on a fishing boat, he is very protective of her and will gladly put an arrow into anyone who touches her. She’s content with her life until a young man shows up and introduces her to a world beyond — which changes everything."

Candy - "Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish play Dan and Candy, two young bohemians who fall madly in love while shooting heroin together." All righty then.

Cast Away - If you missed out on the 2-disc special edition of this Tom Hanks survival fable after Fox put it on moratorium, here it is again.

Damned If You Don't - One of several discs out this week from the trailblazing lesbian filmmaker Su Friedrich; see also Hide and Seek, Odds of Recovery, Sink or Swim, and The Ties That Bind.

The Great Match - "Each of the three groups - Mongolian nomads, Brazilian natives, and Niger tribesmen - endeavor to view a World Cup soccer game on television."

The Incredible Journey Of Mary Bryant - "This biopic is based on the life of Mary Bryant, an escaped convict who undertook an epic and perilous journey as she fled from Australia in an attempt to return to her native England in 1788."

Judi Dench Collection - Judi, Judi, Judi. Eight discs' worth of Judi. In addition to The Cherry Orchard (1981/1962) , which is available separately this week, there are also Talking to a Stranger, Parts 1-4; Keep an Eye on Amelie; Make and Break; Langrishe, Go Down; Absolute Hell; Ghosts; Can You Hear Me Thinking?; and Going Gently.

The Lady and the Highwayman - 1989 swashbuckler/romance starring Hugh Grant and Emma Samms.

Lola - "Marks the stunning feature debut of Mexico’s leading female director, Maria Novaro, who offers a different perspective on motherhood, a prominent theme in Latin American cinema." From 1989.

Princesas - "Director and screenwriter Fernando León de Aranoa takes to the streets of Spain for this drama, which focuses on the lives and aspirations of a group of prostitutes."

Roman - "Angela Bettis reunites with May's director, Lucky McKee, but the tables are turned in Roman, with her behind the camera and him in front. McKee plays the title character, an awkward man consumed by his love for a young beauty (Kristen Bell). But when he finally comes face to face with the object of his obsession, things turn gruesome. Written by McKee, Roman features the same dark sensibility that made May such a favorite with horror fans." Hmmmm. Verrry interesting, since I'm a big fan of May.

Sunsplit - "In the tradition of Crash, Sunsplit is an absorbing tale of three unique Los Angeles individuals." Does that mean this will be preachy and overrated, too?

HORROR

After Dark Horror Fest - A collection of low-budget horror films that were shown as a festival in some cities last Halloween. They're also all available separately, and they are: Dark Ride; The Gravedancers; The Hamiltons; Penny Dreadful; Reincarnation; Unrest; and Wicked Little Things.

Albert Fish - Docudrama about "the elderly cannibal, sadomasochist, and serial killer, who lured children to their deaths in Depression-era New York City."

Cinema of Death - Five short underground horror films: Adoration, Dislandia, Pig, Hollywood Babylon, and Le Poeme. It's reviewed here if you need to know more.

Omoo Omoo, the Shark God - "A cheapie horror film about plunderers of a sacred voodoo shrine who are haunted by the curse of the Shark God. Based on the novel by Herman Melville." From 1949.

Pumpkinhead: Ashes To Ashes - "Horror icons Doug Bradley and Lance Henriksen star in this riveting continuation of the Pumpkinhead series."

Shutter - "A young photographer and his girlfriend discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after a tragic accident. They soon learn that you can not escape your past." Thai horror.

HOT-TICKET ITEMS
(the ones everyone but you will
be able to find at Blockbuster this week)

Blood Diamond - Regular or special editions are available for this Edward Zwick moral thriller. Nominated for several Oscars, won none.

The Dukes Of Hazzard: The Beginning - Since The Dukes of Hazzard did well, we now get this prequel relating the early days of Bo, Luke, Daisy, and Boss Hogg. Only Willie Nelson (who probably still needs the money) returns as Uncle Jesse.

Eragon - This derivative fantasy based on a book written by a teenager was not, amusingly, the big hit that was hoped for. So now you get it in regular or special editions.

Everyone's Hero - "A heartwarming comedy-adventure, telling the story of a young boy's thousand-mile journey to help Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees win the World Series. The project's theme of perseverance against all odds was inspired by the film's originating director and executive producer, Christopher Reeve."

The Nativity Story - Catherine Hardwicke, director of Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown, handles quite a different teenage story.

Rocky Balboa - Stallone brings his best-loved character back for one final round. Recommended for Rocky fans or even just people who fondly remember the original film. Also available on Blu-Ray.

ACTION/ADVENTURE

The Bank Job - "When inmate Kenny is finally let loose, he wastes no time in hooking up with Brandon, an old pal and fellow criminal with plans to rob a bank. The venture leaves Brandon injured, and forces Kenny to steal a car for their escape. But what they don't realize is what's hidden in the trunk -- and it's a secret that leads them to become involved with a slew of crazy characters."

Honey Baby Honey Baby - "Against the seething backdrop of the intriguing Middle East, a super-smooth soldier of fortune (Calvin Lockhart) enlists the help of a bright and sexy American interpreter (Diana Sands). Together they launch an incredible series of events involving the whereabouts of a much loved African premier, a sect of revolutionary terrorists and the enslavement of the free world. Caught in the middle of rival political factions, they barely escape with their lives."

The Liberators - "Set during the Second World War, The Liberators is the story of a violent U.S. soldier who is sentenced to death for attempted rape and murder. He escapes the military firing squad only to find himself battling German soldiers." From 1977.

Operation Pink Squad - "Four unruly female police officers known as the 'Pink Squad' have been transferred to a new unit. Their new supervisors begin devising schemes, hoping to be rid of them. But the four remain steadfast, until one of the girls falls for a criminal they have been staking out. Friction starts to build between the four, and unless they can pull together, they may just lose the case."

Reflection - "After images of young girls start appearing in her mirror, Nadine finds herself pulled into another dimension. Nadine still looks normal to her friends and family, but in fact this is actually Nadine's reflection. The real Nadine is stuck in another world, watching helplessly as her counterpart confuses everyone with her mysterious ways, her aggressive sexuality, and her drive to kill."

Stan Lee Presents: The Condor - "Comic creator Stan Lee presents this animated film about a skateboarder-turned-superhero."

Vengeance Is a Golden Blade - Shaw Brothers martial arts from 1969.

COMEDY

The Amorous Milkman - Sex comedy from 1975.

Are We There Yet? - Reissue of the Ice Cube family-friendly comedy, with a "sneak peek" at its upcoming sequel Are We Done Yet?

Burning Annie - "Max's college life is defined by his obsession with one movie: Woody Allen's Annie Hall. His friends waste no time in pointing out that Max's fixation is hindering his love life, but the poor fellow is helpless, even when Julie, the one and only listener to Max's late-night confessional radio show, expresses a romantic interest in him."

Comedy Central Roast Of William Shatner (Uncensored!) - Kirk gets dissed by friends and castmates.

Crazy Hong Kong - One of the many Gods Must Be Crazy follow-ups starring N!xau.

Cruel World - "Edward Furlong and Jaime Pressly star in this comedy about a losing contestant on a reality TV show who seeks bloody revenge for his defeat."

Preppies - 1982 sex comedy directed by Chuck Vincent and starring Playboy centerfold Lynda Weismeyer.

Scandal U.S.A. - "It's The Abscam Flim Flam Comedy Of The Century! In this hysterical and topical sexy comedy, G-men do their utmost to capture bribe makers on film. But playing Candid Camera proves to be hard for America's finest as everyone seems to have their own agenda and private scam going on and they literally have no idea where to point the cameras! In the end just about everybody will be caught with their pants down, and maybe their wallets a little heavier! Featuring some very funny stand-up comedy moments with Joan Rivers." This is from 1981, so there's a sharp limit on how "topical" it can be. Also known as Uncle Scam.

Unkissed Bride - 1966 sex comedy featuring Tommy Kirk and Henny Youngman.

The W.C. Fields Comedy Collection: Volume 2 - Contains You're Telling Me!, The Old Fashioned Way, Man on the Flying Trapeze, Poppy and Never Give a Sucker an Even Break.

CRITERION

The Naked City - Jules Dassin's 1948 film noir classic gets the Criterion treatment.

DOCUMENTARY

Addiction - "HBO produces a typically thoughtful program on the nature of addiction with this documentary. Doctors from a variety of fields explain how numerous factors combine to cause addiction, while also examining the treatments available to prevent addiction from recurring."

Diamonds of War: Africa's Blood Diamond - "National Geographic correspondents follow the trail of illicit diamonds from their origin in the muddy pits of impoverished Sierra Leone, to the pristine cobblestone streets of Antwerp, Belgium, to their final stop in the glittering display cases of New York's finest jewelry stores."

Emperors Of The Ice - "In the frozen wilderness of Antarctica, where oceans ice over and just staying alive is an achievement, one creature has perfected the art of survival - the emperor penguin. Emperor penguins are sublimely built to conquer the cold - but in a world threatened by climate change, can they take the heat? Using Crittercam, scientists take a virtual ride under the ice with the emperor penguin to study the impact of climate change on the penguin's world."

Flag Wars - "A documentary about a poor African-American neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. A group of white, and mostly gay, people has moved into the neighborhood, making tensions rise. Protests and court cases are all caught on camera, and extensive interview footage with both old and new residents is included."

Going To Pieces: The Rise And Fall Of The Slasher Film - "Gorehounds will love Going to Pieces, a documentary filled with the best scenes in slasher film history. From essential classics like Psycho to newer films like Cabin Fever, this movie features interviews with horror's biggest names like Wes Craven and Rob Zombie. With clips featuring frightening villains Freddy Krueger, Jason, and Michael Myers, an evening with this film is sure to include nightmares."

Hidden Epidemic: Heart Disease In America - "This documentary surveys the top killer of Americans--heart disease, which strikes without warning for more than half of those who succumb to it. This film examines the origins of heart disease, the most recent scientific research, and what the public can do about it."

Inside North Korea - "Join National Geographic's Lisa Ling as she captures a rare look inside North Korea - something few Americans have ever been able to do. Posing as an undercover medical coordinator and closely guarded throughout her trip, Lisa moves inside the most isolated nation in the world, encountering a society completely dominated by government and dictatorship."

Mana: Beyond Belief - "Every culture invests objects with power, or "mana." This documentary explores the world of mana objects and their influence in realms as diverse as art, religion, and politics. From the revered to the ridiculous, these objects help shape our beliefs and the world in which we live."

My Country, My Country - "Working alone in Iraq over eight months, director/cinematographer Laura Poitras creates an extraordinarily intimate portrait of Iraqis living under U.S. occupation."

Mythbusters: Mega Movie Myths - "Hollywood is shrouded in myth and rumor, with incredible tales coming out of the studios on a daily basis. This program attempts to determine the truth behind some of the more outlandish myths that Hollywood has spun over the years."

Nova - Two today: Global Warming: What's Up With The Weather and Underwater Dream Machine.

Trudell - "John Trudell was the Chairman of the American Indian Movement of the 1970s, and went on to become a published poet and musician. This documentary lovingly portrays all sides of the provocative and outspoken Native American activist."

DRAMA

Always Will - "A high-school kid unwittingly discovers the secret to changing the past. But as his popularity rises in school, he faces a difficult decision when he realizes he can change his mom's fortunes as well." So, kind of The Butterfly Effect Jr.

Come Early Morning - Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy) made her directorial debut with this character study starring Ashley Judd.

The Hunt For The BTK Killer - "For 31 years, the serial killer known as BTK raised terror in the small town of Wichita, Kansas. Starting in 1974 and ending in 1991, BTK killed 10 people and resurfaced in 2005, in which the BTK killer was captured. This is the story of how police found, captured, and convicted the vicious killer named Dennis Rader." With Gregg Henry and Robert Forster.

Lost Soul: The Movie - "Two lifelong friends are at a crossroads in this urban drama with a message. Christian rapper Mr. D-Note stars as Sneak, a man who decides he has had enough of living on the wrong side of the law. But his friend Game (Brotha-E) doesn't want to give up his violent life, and his choice may have eternal consequences."

Michael Shayne: Private Detective Collection 1 - Quartet of mystery films starring Lloyd Nolan: Michael Shayne, Private Detective, The Man Who Wouldn't Die, Sleepers West, and Blue, White, & Perfect.

The Passion of Joshua the Jew - "A rabbi meets a young man who he believes is the new messiah. Designed as a retort to Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, Pasquale Scimea's film veers away from the violence of Gibson's epic and instead creates a personal tale that tackles issues of destiny and prejudice."

Some Things That Stay - "With the conservative 1950s as the backdrop, this drama centers on a teenage girl and her unconventional family. Katie Boland plays Tamara, a young woman who is just finding friends and love in a new town when her mother becomes ill."

St. Peter - "Oscar nominee Omar Sharif stars in this drama about the life of Peter. After Christ's death and resurrection, strife between his followers and the Romans increases, and the disciples become targets for their faith. Peter realizes that he may have to follow in the footsteps of his Lord and Savior, even if they lead him to a death on the cross."

Wondrous Oblivion - "A young boy obsessed with cricket is delighted when a cricket-loving Jamaican family moves in next door. But the other residents of the boy's street don't take too kindly to their new neighbors, leading to a some tense scenes of conflict in this movie set in 1960s England."

HORROR

First Born - 2007 chiller starring Elisabeth Shue, who really deserves a better career than the one she's been having post-Leaving Las Vegas.

The Hunt - "This eerie horror thriller from director Fritz Kiersch (Children of the Corn) follows Jack Hamburg and his young stepson, who venture into the woods to film a hunting video, but stumble onto mysterious and terrifying signs that they may not be the predators after all. Robert Rusler, Cliff De Young, and Joe Michael Burke star."

Pro-Life - John Carpenter's second episode for Showtime's Masters of Horror series.

The Re-Animator - New edition of the cult classic, with two discs worth of extras.

Return Of The Living Dead: Rave To The Grave - Number five in what should really never have been a series. First and third ones were good; the rest are crap.

Dave Courtney: Dodgy Dave - "Former British gangster Dave Courtney revisits the profession with this series of action-packed films."

K.Y.E.: Kill Your Enemy - "Similar in intent to reality TV spoof Series 7: The Contenders, this mockumentary-style movie profiles three characters who are given a series of rules to follow as they attempt to murder their enemies and catch the act on camera."
